ORCKA Lvl 3 Tandem Canoe & Paddle Canada Intro Tandem Canoe
ORCKA Basic Canoeing Level 3 & Paddle Canada Intro Tandem Canoe Skills (title change). (Edits here) – This will be a 2-day in-person course offered in Toronto. Participants will have the opportunity to acquire introductory certification from both ORCKA and Paddle Canada. The course focuses on canoe safety and technical paddling skills.
Basic Canoeing serves as the foundation for the ORCKA canoeing programming. Level 3 includes an introduction to open canoe paddling in flat water including but not limited to Pivots, Circles, Landings forward and reverse straight lines and stroke development.
Paddle Canada’s Introduction to Lake Canoeing course introduces beginner tandem paddlers how to paddle with a partner in calm, sheltered waters. Participants will be introduced to the basic paddling strokes and land and water rescues techniques. At the end of the course, participants will have the confidence and basic skills needed to go out on short paddling adventures.
Instructors will deliver ORCKA Basic Canoeing levels 1-3 content and assess participants’ skill level at the end of the course to award the appropriate certification level. Participants will have the opportunity to receive an Ontario Recreational Canoe and Kayak Association Level 1-3 and either a Paddle Canada Intro or Intermediate Skills certification, depending on previous canoe experience and training.

Eligibility Requirements
This course is open to all Training Academy participants interested in pursuing further training in canoe skills and working towards becoming a guide or instructor in lake environments. Priority will be given to those who have not yet received any paddling certifications from the Training Academy programs.
Preference will be given to participants in order to cultivate inclusivity; bestow equity and justice; promote the normalization of BIPOC and 2SLGBTQ+ folks in outdoor spaces; and create a community of outdoor leaders who can thrive and lead.
